Laird Technologies Releases New Bluetooth® BTM 440/441/442/443 Wireless Data Modules

Laird Technologies, Inc., a global leader in the design and supply of customized performance-critical components and systems for advanced electronics and wireless products, today announced the release of its new BTM 440/441/442/443 Bluetooth® Enhanced Data modules.

Meeting full FCC, CE and Bluetooth SIG approvals, the new modules comply with the Bluetooth 2.1 standard. They are also available in either AT command or Multipoint API modes by default. The enhanced Multipoint mode supports up to seven simultaneously connected slave devices; making the modules an ideal embedded solution for more than just point-to-point Bluetooth connections.

Simple to configure and set up, the BTM440/441/442/443 series offers multiple advanced profiles on a single module. One such profile is the Serial Port Profile (SPP). The SPP mimics a serial cable, thereby taking the place of a RS-232 standard in cable replacement applications.

Another profile included is the Human Interface Device (HID) Profile. This profile enables users to use HIDs such as a mouse, keyboards, and other peripherals over a wireless connection. The HID can be used with custom HID descriptors, which the user defines in the module, thus enabling the user to stream data without sending the descriptor information.

A third profile incorporated into the modules is the Health Device Profile (HDP), including the IEEE specialization for weigh scales. This profile allows for a wireless connection between medical devices in order to transmit and download data.

“The BTM440/441/442/443 product series meets the demands of embedded designers who are looking for a simple method of adding advanced Bluetooth profiles into their solutions,” said Chris Downey, Laird Technologies Product Manager, Telematics & Wireless M2M. “They are also competitively priced with a quick time to market.”
